46 Reflections on a Life Half Over

Every year on my birthday, I dive into a ritual of reflection, one lesson for each year. Even though I publish and share with readers, more than anything it's become a soul searching exercise.

For better and worse, life doesn't turn out how we thought it would. It's a mixed bag of amazing moments and parts that downright suck.

First. I feel like the luckiest uncle in the world. My nephew, inspires, entertains, and makes laugh every day. He's taught me to find music in the silence, magic in the mundane, and extraordinary joy in ordinary things. Bananas, whales, onions, remote controls - they're all a source of wonder if you see them through his eyes.

Secondly, we all seem to have this notion of a finish line in life - a career goal, a relationship status, a wealth target. I get it, but I'm not sure I've fully internalized this lesson just yet.

Thirdly, everything we hold dear, despise, or think we can't live without is impermanent. Nothing lasts forever. So, we've got to cherish what we treasure, tolerate what we despise, and realize that what we can't live without is truly priceless.

Finally, I've stripped away all the unnecessary nonsense from this article. No pop-ups, no social icons, no distractions. Just some images to go with the words. No need to share, tweet, or do any of that stuff.

Just read. If you hate it, there's an unsubscribe button at the bottom of this newsletter. But if you like it, I hope it makes you laugh, cry, smile, and reflect.

If you're reading this, you've given me more than I could ever ask for. You've allowed me to do what

I love, tell stories, and build a career out of my creative impulses.

Thanks for being a part of my journey for the past 15 years.
